My experiences, and perspective

Working together with offshore team members, from outsourcing partners in a different part of the world, is typically a lot of fun. It can give you some nice and colorful variations during your workday. If you allow yourself to remove the typical mental barrier and look at these resources as a natural extension of your local team, then you start to build strong connections and strengthen the team for the benefit of your own company.

Any worker that is happy and feels seen, will naturally perform better. This also applies to an offshore team member.

I worked several years for one of the biggest ServiceNow customers in Norway, where offshore resources made up a significant part of the IT organization. Some of the largest Outsourcing Partners in India were competing to fulfill our demands for competent IT resources, and for one of them, we were their largest account in Europe.

I experienced ups and downs. I onboarded resources that turned out to be too fresh and not a good fit for our ambitions and goals. It's never fun to give a recommendation to offboard someone, but I always tried my best to avoid it and to give constructive feedback in the interest of progressing their growth as much as possible while they are in my care.
